TC Planets: Joputia

Founded in A.D 2346 by a private sector explorer vessel the ICS (independent Colonial Vessel) Shik, by Captain A. Wendler, during a 2 year expedition into the unknown for new systems. He Discovered 3 New systems during this time, the second one: the Mekkhetian system, named by him, contained the planet Joputia. Of the 3 systems, this planet was the only one with conditions great enough to sustain human life (with Terraformation). When the report was made back to the Marigold exploration company, they brought up the findings to the Republic. Though the planet had an atmosphere and conditions just right for terraformation, the Republic decided not to begin the process of Terraformation, as it lay on the outer colonies, and the Republic was focused more on the infrastructure of the Central and Middle colonies.

By the time of the colonial Rebellion, Rebels from the neighboring systems used the Mekkhetian system and the first System discovered by Captain Wendler, the Chitean system; as based of operations against the forces of the UCR, especially since they were new, and largely unknown systems. After the Republic pushed through and entered the system, they discovered the rebels had turned the system into a primary base of operations and a smuggling route. The UCR forces quickly and quite violently forced the rebels out of the Mekkhetian system, to only again find out the Chitean system next door had been converted as well. Dividing the fleets in half, the first wave entered the Chitean system, only to be ambushed by a rebel fleet laying in wait, as well as the forces in the Mekkhetian system. The UCR ships attempting to escape were destroyed. The UCR would not re-enter the system for 7 more years, and when they did, they came back in force, overwhelming all of the rebels and their bases, and moving on to the Chitean system, where the Rebels had converted to a stronghold. Republic Admiral, Admiral G. McClain, victor of past conflicts with the Rebellion razed the entirety of the system, as it's continued existence was a symbol of the Rebels victory over the UCR in the past. It's planets were bombarded and glassed, and the moons of every planet were destroyed. The Chitean System became an example of how far over the edge the UCR forces had gotten, as well as what they were willing to do.

For the remaining course of the war, the Mekkhetian system was under Republic control, and the planet Joputia surprisingly was largely ignored. After the FCP/FCZ was established, the Mekkhetian, Chitean, and Botani system (all 3 of Captain A. Wndler's discoveries) became part of the FCZ (free colony Zone). Laying in the far rear of the FCZ, the systems as well as many others were lightly populated, making systems like these a hotspot for independent colonial vessels, seeking to establish a colony and government of their own. Joputia was initially grabbed by an Independent former republic ship, with colonists seeking to start a new outside the restrictive Republic government. They claimed 4 of the Mekkhetian planets (joputia included) before other vessels ended up staking their claims on the remainder.

In AD 2499, the Free Colonial Government of Kavais, which was named after the first planet the Settlers had actually landed on. Being a poorer and newer nation, they did not have the money to afford buying Terraformation technology, but neither could they afford a large enough military to hold their borders.

By 2582, the FCGK had fallen to another regional power, the Haatvatian Conglomerate, which was a union of Colonies, and Independent Companies, seeking to unify the System under one government. Both armies involved were extremely small, but the HC won in the end, but would eventually collapse of over expanding too quickly in 2630, reverting it's colonies back to solitary independent nations. Joputia, was one of them.

Though, at this time Joputia was still un-terraformed, and was really only a independent nation because of it's small station orbiting the planet. It had almost no colonies on the surface, as it was still incredibly dangerous with the asteroid belt always threatening to crash to the surface. The answer was to mine out the asteroids and send them crashing to the planet's surface, in an attempt that it could help the Terraformation process. The few ships (7 of them, only 1 ship being military) they had, including it's military vessel were used to begin the mining of the asteroid belt surrounding the planet, and sell a lot of the ore mined up to surrounding colonies to help afford a Terraforming plants and technology.

By 2681, the Joputian government had mined up much of the smaller asteroids, leaving many larger ones to still be cracked open. At this time the space station that was used to house the people of Joputia had been grounded planet-side and converted into a land-based colony, with the military vessels (by this time the Joputians had enough money to purchase 2 more military ships) standing inbetween the asteroid belt, and the colony, ready to destroy any asteroids on a course for the colony. It had also at this time established very good relations with it's neighboring colonies, dealing heavily in trade of Ores for food and other supplies from the planet Antaeus, which, though it did not have the capabilities so safely harbor human life without the need for a breathing apparatus, DID harbor alien species of plants and animals.

By the year 2726, the planet bought it's first Terraformation system. Though, they had officially begun trying to terraform the planet by use of CO2 emissions from ore refineries along the planet, the system could speed things up. However, it would be a slow process, as normally a fast Terraforming cycle requires at least 10 systems scattered along the planet.

Unfortunately, in 2751 on the Rise of the Staevik Union and it's expansion, this peaceful system was brought the the brink of war, as they feared the threat of invasion by the Staevik forces and it's war machine. The Confederacy extended it's hand of Aid to the Mekkhetian system and it's neighboring systems, but it was a secret ploy by the confederacy to steal more land. Most Systems took the offer, and ultimately doomed themselves, the Mekkhetian system as well as the neighboring systems of Botani, Karz, and Auzhereme systems refused the offer, instead forming a coalition of their own of independent colonies, combining military forces per system.

When the Free Colony Wars began immediately following the Second Xeno-Terran war, the Mekkhetian system was given a clear an definitive choice: "Pick a side or die" by every power involved, much like many other colonies and systems were told. Having different views on which side would have been the better option, the coalition collapsed, as colonies and systems chose their allies, ultimately becoming Vassal states of the larger powers. The Xeno-Confederation (alliance of Xenon and the confederacy), the Staevik Union, and the Terran Federation were at this time the three main forces vying for control. Joputia had hoped to fly under-the-radar by not choosing a side, and trying to hide themselves, but their neighboring colonies, once friends and trusted allies, now slit apart by political viewpoints forced Joputia to decide. In the end, the Joputians chose the Staevik Union, as the Staevik were nearly right next door, and they feared the worst if they refused to give in. Antaeus, which had chose to fight for Terra, openly declared war on the Joputians, and began it's invasion of the smaller and lightlier populated world, using the asteroid belt to threaten bombardment of the planet unless they surrendered.

The planet was eventually taken back by Staevik Supporting worlds, and a vicious cycle of Tug-of-war happened over Jupotia, and many others like it between local warring colonies.

DESCRIPTION OF JOPUTIA:

Joputia is a planet in the middle of a long and arduous terrafroming process. It's just a bit smaller than earth, by 1/8th of Earth's size, however remains the perfect candidate to become an Earthlike world. Much of it's asteroid belt remains, constantly threatening the planet's surface, as well as an unfinished moon, forming out of many of the asteroids.

The planet during it's terrafromation has slowly begun to see the arrival of plantlife and an Oxygen and Earth-like atmosphere because of this, and the Joputians have begun trying to introduce Earth plantlife. Though the Atmosphere is not yet breathable, it's not too far off. It's only ocean, a massive poisonous body of water, has been constantly enduring treatment by the locals, in an attempt to help with the terraformation process, as well as to make it so algea can be planted.

It's still largely, despite terraforming, an unfinished world, as the ones who own it have bee too poor to afford the expensive Terraforming technology that every power seems to have.
