"AVE CAESAR!!" The gladiator exclaimed as he held his heated blade into the air, the blood and sand coating his body, helmet and armor scratched and dented. This was his victory.
The bloodsport of the future looks a lot like the past. In an age when man has advanced so far, they seem to end up repeating themselves.
Gladiatoral combat was reintroduced to man by the colony Neo Delphi which now is a member state in the Confederacy. It became extremely popular and spread throughout the Confederate member states shortly after it's joining with the nation. It was the bread and circuses for the people during a time of small wars with other nations. Combatants would wear full suits of armor, and wield a stun-stick integrated into the armor system, delivering a series of painful shocks, and the armor would lock up on the areas it was hit. Very safe to the combatant, and the Confederate government preferred it that way.
Then the Terrans adopted it and took it one step further. Less armor, real weapons. The Combatants would be allowed to go almost as far as killing the opponent. Broken limbs, cut arms, hacked off limbs. It was all fine. But once the combatant was down they were considered out of the fight. Medical units would proceed to the injured combatant to keep them from dying. It was all well and fine, until the sport became widespread throughout the Free Colonies, and the people demanded more. Fancy suits were left behind, stunsticks were forgotten, and the bloodsport began.
The Federation's central colonies would ban all out killing of the opponent, as well as the Confederacy. But outer Terran colonies, independent nations: the loved it.
In a galaxy in the brink of war, everyone needs a distraction.

Among the many bloodsports of the free colonies, is numerous different forms of gladiatoral combat, Drone Racing, hoverbike racing, combat wardroid battles, and mock battles using non-lethal rounds
"Ave Caesar!" Is something the Terrans started, the person in charge of overseeing the games, is the ones referred to as Caesar.
